San Carlos Lake provides a nice area to pursue many recreational
activities right in our backyard. Many of us enjoy sailing, windsurfing
and kayaking. We can all enjoy these hobbies as long as we keep several
things in mind :
-
Always wear lifejackets
-
Be aware and use caution around shallow areas
-
Respect the rights of other boaters
-
Sail only during safe conditions
On a warm windy summers day, we are sure that everyone on
the lake enjoys watching the colorful sails of both wind surfers and a
large variety of sailboats zipping back and forth on the clear waters of
our lake. San Carlos Lake is a man-made lake. When removing
the gravel, very little thought was given to the days when somebody would
be windsurfing on a beautiful august day. There are many hazards especially
when the water level is low. This is why we are asking you to participate
in Pass the Word.
Pass the Word
-
Tell all fellow boaters and wind surfers about the big boulders and there
location. You might save your neighbor hundreds of dollars in damages to
his/her boat. I'm sure they would appreciate it.
-
Learn where the shallow flats are and inform others. Many a trolling motor
and rudder have been damaged in these shallow areas.
-
Look out for your fellow boaters. If you see a careless boater, remind
them that everyone's safety is effected by their action.
-
Watch young children when they are in paddle boats. Insure they are wearing
life jackets.
-
Be aware of the path that your boat is taking at all times. Look out for
others and pay attention to all water hazards and location of everyone
else.
-
Remember we are trying to turn this man-made lake into a natural lake and
the ecosystem is sensitive. We cannot allow motorboats. The pollution would
drastically effect the lake.
-
As a boater, take the time out to appreciate the excellent water quality
that we posses and put forth the extra effort to maintain it. Remove any
floating debris and keep the shorelines clean. We all benefit when the lake
is left as natural as possible.
-
Report any hazards to a board member so they can take action as soon as
possible. Communications is important.
-
Do your part to maintain the lake in an natural order. If you see individuals
polluting, poaching or endangering themselves or other individuals, notify
the proper authorities. All local and state laws apply on our lake.
-
Be aware of the location of all artificial fish habitat and avoid fish
spawning beds. This helps control the snail population in our lake which
prevents swimmers itch. Remember the more natural it is, the better it
is for all involved. Every time you see a turtle or frog, you know we are
on the right track.
